slated-colored variety; uniform slate except for white belly, flanks, under tail; call is an electronic trill

male (black hood) from Oregon population; brownish back and flanks
Eastern Towhee

male red-eyed variety (more common in northern states)

female on left, male on right; dark above, white belly and patch on wings, rufous flanks
Greater Roadrunner

long legs and tail, white line behind eye, heavily streaked above
Mourning Dove

gray, long pointed tail, black spots on back; note facial pattern; call is owl-like but distinctly mournful
